Piano Action RegulationS…………………..SPEED Your piano action has thousands of parts. When new, the factory sets these parts in a specific location to enable your particular piano to play at its optimum. You, as a pianist, will evaluate the piano if it plays (feels) heavy, light, even and the amount of aftertouch. In other words, is it fun or a struggle to play. The changes a piano undergoes are very small year to year, and huge when neglected year after year when compared to new. Just like taking care of your teeth. Look at them when you were a teenager with their current condition. During regulation, proper tension (friction) distances and timing are put back to ‘factory spec’ or modified to your liking and style of play. Once again, the action parts must be in good repair and regulation is highly recommended prior to tuning. What gets regulated??????????????
Several of these steps are interdependent i.e .changing one step will affect one or more other steps. How long and how much????????????????? A complete regulation could take a couple of days
